We are very excited to announce next in our presentations in our

Feminist Therapy Lecture Series.

Disability-Affirmative Therapy

Speaker: Rhoda Olkin, Ph.D.

Sunday September 12th, 4-6 pm (2 Continuing Education Units)

When a client has a disability, how does the clinician think about that client without either over-inflating or underestimating the role of disability?  What is the relationship between the disability and the presenting problems? A good case formulation should be able to address these questions.  This presentation will provide a template for conceptualizing cases in which disability is one factor.  The approach is from Disability Affirmative Therapy, and uses a case example and a video of that client to demonstrate how the D-AT template can enrich our understanding of clients with disabilities.

Rhoda Olkin, Ph.D., licensed psychologist, is a Distinguished Professor at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, and the Executive Director of the Institute on Disability and Health Psychology. She is the author of the book "What psychotherapists should know about disability," one of the few books on disability for clinicians outside rehabilitation settings, and the video "Disability-Affirmative Therapy: A beginner's guide."  Dr. Olkin has a private practice and does expert witness work, and is a mother with a disability.

Cost is $40, or $50 for 2 CEUs*.
Student and intern rate is $25
